Premiere of the audiovisual performance

Landscape People is a composer's cycle of Tetiana Khoroshun based on the song traditions of Ukraine, Rumelia/Greece and Crimea. The sounds of the landscape are woven into the musical structure alongside vocals, electroacoustic elements and the instruments of Ensemble 24.

The project explores loss of home, displacement and connection to place. For Tetiana Khoroshun, who comes from Yalta, working with the landscape is a way of speaking about memory and the temporary inaccessibility of home. The project includes Ukrainian folk songs, Hutsul hoikannia, songs of the Qirimli (Crimean Tatars) and materials in the Rumelian language, spoken by the Greeks of the Azov Sea region and currently at risk of disappearing.
New compositions have been created from archival materials in the Rumelian language. The audios were provided by the Tovarystvo Hrekiv Pryazovia – Association of Greeks of the Azov Region ENOZIS and Greek community of Ukraine.

The project is a winner of the Per Forma grant program developed by Kyiv Contemporary Music Days with the support of the Performing Arts Fund NL and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands, aimed at developing the performing arts sector in Ukraine.
